On the afternoon of December 15, 2010, Chinese President Hu Jintao met with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen at the Great Hall of the People.

Hu said that since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries half a century ago, China-Cambodia relations have withstood the test of the changing international situation and achieved in-depth development. China-Cambodia friendship has been deeply rooted in the hearts of both peoples and has become the common wealth of both peoples. The president said the Chinese government and people value the traditional friendship with Cambodia, and will always support Cambodia to take the development path suited to its own national conditions and to promote economic and social development.

"The establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation brings new opportunities for the development of bilateral ties," Hu pointed out. He added that China is ready to maintain bilateral exchanges at high and other levels, enhance mutual support on major issues of each other’s concerns and deepen exchange of experience on state governance. Both sides should expand bilateral cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, finance, infrastructure construction, agriculture and energy, push for sustained, steady growth of bilateral trade, and strive to fulfill new growth targets. Both sides should focus on the future of bilateral relations, deepen humanities exchanges and enhance scientific, educational, cultural, health, youth and people-to-people exchanges, in a bid to carry forward China-Cambodia friendship from generation to generation. Both sides should keep closer multilateral cooperation, and maintain their coordination on regional and international affairs. Hu also called on the two sides to strengthen cooperation in areas such as coping with the international financial crisis, disaster prevention and relief and combating cross-border crimes to jointly contribute to regional and world peace, stability and development.

Hun Sen fully agreed to Hu’s important proposals on furthering bilateral ties. He said Cambodia-China relations have a long history and the friendship forged by the older generations of leaders of the two countries has been deeply rooted in the hearts of both peoples. He recalled his fruitful meeting with President Hu Jintao in May, which played an important role in further consolidating and developing bilateral ties. Hun Sen said during his current visit to China, both sides announced the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation, which marked bilateral ties have entered a new phase. He said China has offered selfless assistance for Cambodia’s economic and social development over the years. Cambodia’s economic and social development can’t achieve remarkable results without China’s assistance and support. Currently Cambodia-China cooperation in all areas is well underway and is developing in an all-round manner. He said Cambodia will adhere to the one-China policy and work with China to push forward bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation.

Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Zhijun and other officials attended the meeting.
